PHL Ambassador Participates in Filipino Film “Sunday Beauty Queens’” Good Pitch² Southeast Asia 2017

10 May 2017 JAKARTA — Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Maria Lumen B. Isleta took part in the roundtable discussion reacting to the pitch of the filmmakers of “Sunday Beauty Queen” during the Good Pitch² Southeast Asia 2017 event held on 04 May 2017 at the Goethe Institute in Jakarta.
Two Filipino films were featured during the event: “Sunday Beauty Queen” for which Director Baby Ruth Villarama and Producer Chuck Gutierrez made a pitch, on behalf of millions of migrant workers living and working in foreign lands away from their families and loved ones; and “Audio Perpetua” with Director Ivy Baldoza and Melanie Entuna pitching for the yet to be completed documentary on tech-abled visually impaired individuals.
Members of the roundtable discussion for “Sunday Beauty Queen” included Ambassador Maria Lumen B. Isleta, Senator Juan Edgardo Angara, Jr., Ms. Susan Ople, MTRCB Chairperson Rachel Arenas, artist Juana Change (Mae Paner) among others and for “Audio Perpetua,” Congresswoman Bernadette Herrera-Dy and MMDA Assistant General Manager Julia Nebrija, among others.
To cap the whole day event, Ambassador Isleta hosted a dinner for the members of the Philippine delegation and other guests of Good Pitch Philippines at Balay Filipino.
Good Pitch, a BRITDOC project in partnership with Ford Foundation and the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program, brings together documentary filmmakers with foundations, NGOs, campaigners, philanthropists, policymakers, brands and media around leading social and environmental issues— to forge coalitions and campaigns that are good for all these partners, good for the films and good for society. BRITDOC is a nonprofit film foundation supported by Bertha Foundation, the Ford Foundation and more than 50 organization and individuals globally.
Good Pitch² Southeast Asia is a satellite event, organized and run independently by In-Docs and was held for the first time in the region featuring documentaries from the region. Ms. Kara Magsanoc-Alikpala organized and coordinated Philippine participation in the event.
