Filipino Community in Costa Rica Expresses Full Support for Philippine President and Nation
Ambassador Eduardo Jose A. de Vega with the Filipino community and officials of the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Costa Rica
10 May 2017 COSTA RICA – Philippine Ambassador Eduardo Jose A. de Vega met the Filipino community in San Jose during his visit there on Aoril 25 to present his Credentials as non-resident Ambassador to the Costa Rican government.
During the meeting, Ambassador de Vega lauded the untiring dedication and strong commitment of both Honorary Consul Pablo Guier Acosta and Honorary Vice-Consul Miriam Miranda Rovira in safeguarding and promoting the interests of the Philippines in Costa Rica, especially in extending legal, consular, and immigration assistance to the approximately 500 Filipinos living in the country.
The Filipino community in Costa Rica informed Ambassador de Vega that they are monitoring the political developments of the Philippines and they affirm their staunch support for the programs of President Rodrigo R. Duterte. They indicated that they are aware of how media could be distorting the real picture of the country, and they know of the realities on the ground.
There are about 50 Filipinos who are not properly documented in Costa Rica and the Filipino leaders asked the support of the Embassy to intercede with local officials on their behalf. Ambassador de Vega therefore raised this issue during his subsequent meetings with both the President and Foreign Minister of Costa Rica. They expressed their strong appreciation for the Filipino community in Costa Rica and promised to look into ways to resolve the issue.
