PHL Ambassador Presents 1-Piso ASEAN 2017 Commemorative Coin to ASEAN Ambassadors in UAE

12 May 2017 ABU DHABI, UAE – Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Constancio R. Vingno, Jr. presented a 1-piso ASEAN 2017 commemorative coin each to ASEAN Ambassadors in the United Arab Emirates during the meeting of the ASEAN Committee in Abu Dhabi (ACAD) on 9 May 2017.

The coin was officially unveiled by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on January 15, 2017 in Davao City, and its design carries the various elements of the logo of the Philippines’ chairmanship of ASEAN in 2017. It includes ten stars representing the ten member states and the text of the theme “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World”. The ASEAN emblem is at the center with the images of the sun and dove symbolizing prosperity and peace; while the Filipino ancient alphabet baybayin mintmark of the BSP Mint appears at the bottom. The reverse side depicts the relief of our national hero Jose Rizal’s monument, the Filipino symbol of courage and patriotism.

During the meeting, the ASEAN Ambassadors also discussed forthcoming activities in UAE for the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN.
