PRRD Meets with Filipino Community in Hong Kong
16 May 2017 - President Rodrigo Roa Duterte met with the Filipino community during his working visit in Hong Kong at the Regal Airport Hotel on May 13, 2017 where he was given a warm welcome by around 1,000 Filipinos coming from various Filipino organizations.
In his speech during the event, the President reiterated that his commitment to fulfill his campaing promises is unrelenting as he continues to work on eradicating illegal drugs, corruption, and criminality.
The President also echoed his vision of achieving peace for the entire country as he, through the members of his cabinet, continues to talk peace with the Communist Party of the Philippines, Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).
Speaking in front of around a thousand Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), the President then vowed to make the lives of the OFWs better as he announced that he will try to set up a bank for OFWs as well as disallowing airport security personnel to open the luggage of OFWs.
The President then ran down the different gains that the country has achieved since establishing stronger ties with China at the start of his term.
Joining the President are the members of his delegation including Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III, Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, Foreign Affairs Acting Secretary EnriqueManalo Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzan, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr., Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella, National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) Secretary Liza Maza, Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence Go, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo incoming Foreign Affairs Secretary Senator Alan Peter Cayetano and Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald dela Rosa.
On a lighter note, the President joined a performer in singing one of his favorite songs ‘Ikaw’ in an intermission number.
Following the event, the President and the members of his delegation proceeded to the Hong Kong International to board the Philippine Airlines Flight PR001 bound for Beijing for their attendance to the Belt and Road Forum. END
