25 May 2017 LOS ANGELES — Samiweng Singers, a youth choral group based at the Ilocos Norte National High School, held their 3rd US Concert Tour in Temple City, California on May 20.
The multi-awarded choir has received both national and international acclaim for their talent, most recently having won several categories at the 1st Vietnam International Choir Festival and Competition held in Hoi An, Vietnam in 2011, and at the 7th World Choir Games held in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2012. They have also received the Ani ng Dangal for Music in 2012 and 2013, given by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, in recognition of their achievements.
The group derives its name from the Ilokano words “sam-it”, which means sweet, and “aweng”, which means sound. Following the California leg of their tour, the Samiweng Singers will perform next in Las Vegas, Nevada and Oahu, Hawaii.
