‘Dutertenomics’ Cited in Study Tour Conducted by Nigerian Military Officers

01 June 2017 MANILA – A 19-member delegation of military officers from the National Defense College of Nigeria, with representatives from Ghana and Zimbabwe, is on a six-day study tour in the country aimed at learning from the Philippine experience on urban planning and national development, as well as understanding the geo-political context of the country’s foreign policies.

On its 5th day, the delegation visited the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and was received by Office of Middle and African Affairs (OMEAA) Assistant Secretary Hjayceelyn M. Quintana, who gave a general overview of the Department’s policies and programs in relation to the over-all theme of the study tour.

At the briefing, Assistant Secretary Quintana shared with the delegation that the current administration is embarking on an economic plan called “Dutertenomics,” which is characterized by massive spending on infrastructure which could generate jobs, spur economic growth and enhance connectivity nationwide.

The delegation saw the potential of the plan and expressed interest in adopting the model in their respective countries.

Further, both sides agreed to actively pursue greater cooperation and explore ways to enhance existing relations.

In addition to the DFA, the study tour consists of a series of meetings with the National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP). END
