15 June 2017 PARIS — Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Dr. Patricia Licuanan was in Paris from June 06 to 09 accompanied by a Philippine university delegation to promote higher education in the Philippines among French universities.

The highlight of Chair Licuanan’s visit was the Journée Pays Philippines or “Philippines Day” organized by Campus France, the French public agency mandated to promote higher education in France, at its Paris headquarters on June 08.

Over twenty French universities were able to meet with six Philippine universities which included the Ateneo de Manila University, the Mindanao State University, the University of the Philippines Los Baños and Manila, the University of Southern Mindanao, and the Visayas State University – all CHED Centers of Excellence or Centers of Development in Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Mathematics (STEAM).

The Philippine and French universities discussed possible cooperation in the form of student and faculty exchanges and dual degrees.

CHED also signed an agreement with renowned French school, Sciences Po, for ten scholarships for Filipino teachers affected by the implementation of the K to 12 program.

Moreover, study visits were also conducted to La Main à la pâte (“hand in the dough”) foundation to discuss inquiry-based science education, two founding members of the Paris-Saclay University (Institute Mines Télécom and Ecole Normale Supérieure) and the Cité International Universitaire de Paris, the largest student accommodation complex in France.
