21 June 2017 ANNECY, FRANCE – With support from the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), the Philippines held its first country pavilion at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival and Market in Annecy, France from June 12 to 17.

The Annecy International Animated Film Festival and Market is the world's biggest festival dedicated to animation. Similar to the Cannes Film Festival, there is a film component – which includes film screenings, conferences and various events – and a business component called the International Market of Animated Film or the MIFA.

The Philippine pavilion is at the MIFA, which has over 4,300 m² of exhibition space and welcomes over 550 international exhibiting companies. Aside from the Philippines, other Asian countries which had pavilions were China, Malaysia, Japan and Korea.

FDCP Chair Liza Diño-Seguerra led the delegation which included representatives from the Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc. (ACPI), animation studios such as well as animation schools De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and Toon City Academy.

On June 13, the Philippine delegation already met with RECA, the French network of animation schools, to discuss possible partnerships. On June 15, the pavilion will host the “Philippine night” in order to promote Philippine animation.

The Philippine Embassy together with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Paris has been actively promoting the Philippine animation industry in France. This September, Saving Sally will be the Philippines’ entry at the ASEAN Film Festival in Paris organized by the ASEAN-UNESCO Committee. In October, five short animated films from the Philippines will be screened during the Fête du cinema d’animaton organized by the French Animated Film Association.
