PHL Embassy Promotes PHL Culture at Largest Public University in Mexico

27 June 2017 MEXICO — The Philippine Embassy in Mexico took part in a cultural program organized by the University Seminar of Asian Studies (SUEA) of the Autonomous National University of Mexico (UNAM) in connection with the Third Edition of the Diploma Program on Asian Studies, which started in January 2017 and will end in October 2017.
The third edition of the diploma program comprises four modules, namely, East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East, and provides fundamental knowledge of the Asian regions through the following disciplines: Language and Culture; Geography, History and Religion; Economics, Sociology, Politics and Law.
The Embassy’s participation is part of Module II: Southeast Asia, which exposes the students to the different cultures of Southeast Asian countries
The Philippine Embassy´s cultural group showcased Filipino folkdances such as the Banga, Cariñosa, Salakot, Habanera de Soltera, the Muslim Fan Dance. It also featured Filipino song “Isang Mundo, Isang Awit”.
UNAM is the largest public university in the country and is one of the most prestigious universities in Latin America and the Spanish-speaking world, in general. It was founded in September 1910 and was granted autonomy in 1929, which gave it the freedom to define its own curriculum and manage its own budget without interference from the government. Noted alumni included five former presidents of Mexico.
