PHL Embassy in Jakarta Hosts Buka Puasa
29 June 2017 JAKARTA — Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Maria Lumen Isleta hosted a buka puasa – “open the fast” – on June 16 to recognize the 34 Muslim staff of the Embassy of the Philippines in Jakarta.
The buka puasa, held at sunset during Ramadan, is the evening meal Muslims take after their meal at dawn. The Embassy’s buka puasa was opened with the reading of verses from the Quran by Ustadz (Islamic scholar) Syihabudin Absi, and enriched by a religious lecture on forgiveness by Imam KH. AD. Kusumah Diakhiri Baca Doa.
The fast was broken with the traditional fare of dates and kolak (a coconut milk-based Indonesian dessert with cassava), and followed by the Magreb prayer for the Embassy’s Muslim staff, as well as a gift-giving by the Ambassador.
