Jersey City Celebrates Filipino-American Friendship

30 June 2017 NEW YORK – Filipinos and Filipino Americans marched through the streest of Jersey City, New Jersey in a flurry of festive colors for the 27th Philippine-American Friendship Parade and Festival on June 25.

Consul General Theresa Dizon-De Vega led the Philippine Consulate General contingent to the parade. Consul General De Vega and Hudson County Freeholder Anthony Romano served as Honorary Grand Marshals.

Jersey City, New Jersey is home to one of the largest and fastest growing Filipino and Filipino-American communities in the US.  In recent years, it has seen a surge in the number of Filipino residents and businesses. 

The current Jersey City Council President is an elected Filipino-American official Rolando Lavarro. He was joined at the event by two other elected Fil-Am officials in New Jersey, Bergenfield Council President Atty. Arvin Amatorio and Councilman Salvador Deauna.

Among the activities during the festival was a Thanksgiving mass at Our Lady of Victories Parish, officiated by Filipino Parish priest Fr. Victor Paloma, which has an active Filipino Ministry and is celebrating its 100th year anniversary this 2017.
