Los Angeles City Council Celebrates 119th Philippine Independence Day

10 July 2017 LOS ANGELES — Philippine Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz together with the President of the Los Angeles Filipino Association of City Employees (LAFACE), Ms. Rea Lazo, received the LA City Council Proclamation honoring the 119th Anniversary of Philippine Independence from the Council members in session at the John Ferraro Council Chamber, City Hall of Los Angeles on June 16.
District 13 Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell, under whose jurisdiction Historic Filipinotown falls, presented a resolution declaring the City’s commemoration of June 12 as the 119th Anniversary of Philippine Independence. The Resolution was signed by all members of the City Council, as well as Mayor Eric Garcetti.
Consul General Cruz thanked the city for bringing acclaim to the Filipino-American community and acknowledged the strong alliance between the United States and the Philippines.
At the council session, District 1 Councilmember Gil Cedillo, District 4 Councilmember David Ryu, and District 15 Council Member Joe Buscaino individually acknowledged the Filipino-American community’s achievements and hard work, contributing to the rich diversity of Los Angeles.
