31 July 2017, BERLIN — Modern Filipino music had its debut in multi-cultural Berlin through Eine Sommernacht (One Summer Night), a soiree organized by the Philippine Embassy in cooperation with Octo Berlin Bar and Restaurant.
Young Filipino expatriates, Filipino-Germans, and other music lovers, not only from Germany, but also from Italy, Portugal, and Ukraine, had the opportunity to get to know each other and share an evening of good food and Filipino music.
The highlight of the event was a performance by singer-songwriter Armi Millare, vocalist of Filipino band, Up Dharma Down with guests singing along to the soulful tune of Tadhana, and other popular songs such as Feelings, Thinker, and Luna.
Berlin-based Filipino singer-songwriter and artist, Ms. Isa Tabasuares also regaled guests with her original compositions, Riverside, False Promises and This Mess we Made.
The event was capped with an open mic session with guests and Embassy personnel giving their own rendition of classic Filipino love songs.
“We want Filipino-Germans and our German and other foreign friends to experience the Philippines through our music, and I would like to thank Armi and Isa for sharing their music with us. The Embassy is proud of the artistic talent that the Philippines has to offer, and we are making that known in this part of the world,” Ambassador Melita Sta. Maria-Thomeczek said.
