Philippine Ambassador H.E. Minda Calaguian-Cruz to Australia, shares the Philippine experience on countering terrorism and resolving the conflict in Marawi City during the Australian Security Summit.

31 July 2017, CANBERRA — Philippine Ambassador H.E. Minda Calaguian-Cruz to Australia, shares the security developments in the Philippines during the Australian Security Summit on July 18 at Hotel Realm in Canberra, Australia. Ambassador Calaguian-Cruz identified global terrorism as one of the biggest security concerns. She relayed the Philippines’ own experience in addressing terrorism and the efforts of the Philippine Government, under the leadership of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to end the conflict in Marawi and begin the process of reconstruction and rehabilitation.

Ambassador Calaguian-Cruz was a panelist on the topic “Addressing Global Security Challenges” alongside Canadian High Commissioner H.E. Paul Maddison, United Kingdom Deputy High Commissioner Ms. Ingrid Southworth, and Head of the National Security College of the Australian National University (ANU) Professor Rory Medcalf. The panel was moderated by Mr. Peter Griffiths of KPMG.

“The issues we confront are not merely regional, but they are also global,” says Ambassador Calaguian-Cruz. She emphasized the important role of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its dialogue relations with key countries such as Australia, United States, Japan, China, Korea among others in providing a platform for dialogue on major security challenges.

The Australian Security Summit was organized by the Public Sector Network, a research company that represents public sector professionals across Australia and New Zealand.
