02 August 2017, ANKARA— The Philippine Embassy in Ankara, Turkey attended to over 166 requests for consular assistance during its regular monthly consular mission on April 16 at the Lazonni Hotel in the Beyoglu District in Istanbul, Turkey.

These comprised of 40 applications for e-Passport renewal, including one travel document; two recapture of biometrics; five passport validity extensions and release of 47 new passports; one report of birth; one report of marriage; two authentication requests; 13 acknowledgments for affidavits and special powers of attorney; and two NBI applications. A total of 17 nationals submitted information for the Embassy's certificates of registration while 36 certificates were released. The Embassy also attended to over 25 inquiries on how to secure authenticated employment contracts as required by the POEA, as majority had secured work permits in Turkey but did not pass through POEA clearance. For overseas voting registration, the Embassy received five requests for registration and another five for transfers. Two OFWs secured their voter’s IDs.  

The Embassy also arranged meetings between new Labor Attache to Turkey Ms. Violeta Illescas and leaders of Filipino community groups in Istanbul and Ankara on July 15 and 18, respectively, as well as a meeting with the Turkish Ministry of Labor and Social Security (CSGB) on July 18. Highlights of the meetings included discussions on the labor conditions of Turkey and its work permit system; the practices of employment agencies or agents in the Philippines and third countries of origin, e.g., Hong Kong, Singapore and other Middle East countries, in bringing workers to Turkey, including their exorbitant fees; the procedures of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration; and the services of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
