PHL Embassy in Washington D.C Promotes Phl Culture to DC Summer Campers

PHL Embassy Public Diplomacy Officer Darell Artates welcomes Kids and Culture campers to the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C on July 20, 2017.

02 August 2017 WASHINGTON — A group of 30 campers, ages 4-8 years old, visited the Philippine Embassy on 20 July 2017 as part of the Kids and Culture Camp summer program this year.

Public Diplomacy Officer Darell Artates welcomed the group to the Embassy’s Romulo Hall, and gave an educational briefing for the campers.

The interactive presentation allowed the campers to learn about the Philippines, including its geography, history, food, and traditions, among others.

“People to people ties have always been an integral part of the Embassy’s mandate here in the United States. Sharing our unique and diverse culture allows these young individuals to see things from a different perspective, and fosters in them a sense of global awareness that contributes to their personal growth and development,” said Ms. Artates.

In addition to the briefing, the Embassy also arranged for the campers to learn about Philippine superheroes as told and demonstrated by its resident artist, Mr. Paolo Galang.

Mr. Galang gave a brief background of local superheroes Darna, Captain Barbell, Varga, Lastikman, Tiny Tony, and Flash Bomba, while showing his personal drawings of each character to the campers.

He also treated the campers to a free basic drawing lesson and demonstration after his presentation.

Established in 2010, Kids and Culture Camp aims to provide high quality, fun, educational and culturally enhancing activities for children during the summer through a four-week program that introduces them to international affairs.
