New York PH Welcomes New UN Counter Terrorism Office

03 August 2017, NEW YORK– “The fight against terrorism should unite us all,” declared Ambassador and Permanent Representative Teodoro Locsin Jr. in his statement delivered today at the UN General Assembly in a meeting to consider the Secretary General’s Report on the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

“There are many ways to fight terrorism but only one way to do destroy it and that is to do so … We cannot live with terrorism because it will not let us live,” said Ambassador Locsin in his opening lines.

Citing the situation in Marawi as a manifestation that terrorism is “one of, if not the gravest, threat to peace and security anywhere in the world”, Ambassador Locsin welcomed the creation of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office as a way to strengthen the United Nations’ “critical leadership role in bringing together in a cohesive whole all the work on counter-terrorism by Member States and the UN.”
