broaden exchanges between the Philippines and Los Angeles.

07 August 2017, LOS ANGELES– Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz paid a call on Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti at the Mayor’s Offices in LA City Hall on Monday afternoon.

The 20-minute call was very warm and upbeat.  Both the Consul General and the Mayor discussed matters of mutual concern such as relations between the Philippines and Los Angeles, particularly Makati, which is LA’s sister city.

Consul General Cruz congratulated the mayor on his landslide victory on the March 2017 mayoral elections.  “I am glad to inform you that the many Filipino-Americans I have spoken to are very happy with your leadership and have faith in your vision for the city,” the Consul General said.

The Consul General thanked the Mayor for the pivotal role he played in the establishment and naming of Los Angeles’ Historic Filipinotown, which is a lasting legacy in honor of the Filipino community and a recognition of their contributions to the city of LA.

Finally, Consul General Cruz discussed the possibility of setting up a meeting between Mayor Mar-len Abigail “Abby” Binay-Campos of Makati and Mayor Garcetti.  The Consul general also invited the Mayor to visit the Philippines and lead a business delegation.

These proposals were enthusiastically received by Mayor Garcetti who suggested that the Consulate General work closely with City Hall to make these initiatives happen.

Mayor Garcetti shared the good news that Los Angeles was awarded the hosting of the 2028 Summer Olympics and highlighted the contributions of the Filipino community to LA, as “one of the most colorful and dynamic ethnic communities” he has ever worked with.

Aside from expressing his desire to visit the Philippines, Mayor Garcetti also invited Filipino businessmen to consider trading with or investing in Los Angeles.

Mayor Garcetti was inaugurated for his second term as Mayor of Los Angeles on July 01 after the mayoral elections in March of this year.
