21 November 2013 - The Philippine Consulate General in Agana and the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) held a promotional event of OSHA last November 15, at the Philippine Consulate General. The activity was held as a simultaneous commemorative event for the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) establishing an alliance between the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Philippine Consulates General in Agana, Honolulu, Los Angeles and San Francisco, held in San Francisco on November 14.
The event was attended by Mr. Anthony M. Anderson, OSHA Administrator on Guam, Mr. Anthony Sholing, OSHA Compliance Officer-Honolulu Office and Mr. Daniel Mooney, OSHA Compliance Officer-Oakland Area Office. They were joined by Director Patrick Candoleta and Mr. Dionesis Tamondong of the Wage and Hour Division (WHD)-US Department of Labor, and Mr. Manuel Q. Cruz, Director of the Guam Department of Labor. Also in attendance were Consul General Jeff Kenty of the Republic of Palau, who is the dean the Guam Consular Corps, Mr. Robson U. Romolow, Foreign Service Officer of the Consulate General of the Federated States of Micronesia, as well as the representatives of the three big construction companies on Guam namely, Reliable Builders Inc., Coretech International and Amazon Construction, and the Coral Sea Realty.
Consul Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of the event in terms of promoting the alliance with OSHA and awareness on safety regulations and health standards in the workplace for the workers and employers on Guam as well as CNMI. He also took the opportunity to thank all the officials and guests present and the community on Guam for their solidarity and overwhelming support for the victims of super typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines.
Messrs Anderson and Sholing spoke on behalf of OSHA. The two officials thanked the Philippine Consulate General and explained the importance of OSHA’s role in promoting safety in the workplace.
The OSHA representatives put up an information booth and handed out information brochures and flyers to the guests and participants after the program.
Director Candoleta of the WHD-USDOL and Director Manuel Q. Cruz of the Guam Department of Labor also gave their respective messages highlighting the existing cooperation between the Consulate General and their offices, particularly their participation in the Consulate’s annual Post Arrival Orientation Seminar.
