DTI Delegation Conducts Trade, Investment and Technical Mission to Brunei

29 August 2017 BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – A delegation from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), led by Assistant Secretary Abdulgani Macatoman, conducted a trade, investment and technical mission to Brunei Darussalam from August 13 to 16.

Members of the delegation included Mr. Senen M. Perlada, Director IV at the Export Marketing Bureau of the DTI (DTI-EMB); Engr. El-Shal S. Sali, Department Manager for Operations of the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority; Mr. Raison D. Arobinto, Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist, Halal Section, at the DTI-EMB; and Mr. Serrg Martin G. Carreon, Trade Industry Development Specialist at the Philippine Accreditation Bureau of the DTI (DTI-PAB).

The first day of the delegation’s technical mission kicked off with a courtesy call on Philippine Ambassador Meynardo LB. Montealegre at the Philippine Embassy, followed by meetings with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFAT), Energy and Industry Department at the Prime Minister’s Office (EIDPMO), and the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT).

The delegation also visited the Halal Science and Metrology Centre (HSMC), followed by meetings with officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), Ghanim International Corporation Sdn. Bhd., and the Brunei Darussalam BlMP-EAGA Business Council (BD-BEBC), at the second day of the technical mission. Philippine Embassy representatives accompanied the delegation in all their meetings and activities.

Agenda-items that were discussed during the delegation’s meetings with the above offices include, among others, the implementation of the Philippines-Brunei MOU on Halal Industry and Halal Export Development and Promotion which was signed last April in Manila; assistance in the development of a Philippine national halal accreditation scheme and capacity building for halal certification; collaboration in establishing a Halal Hub together with the Zamboanga Economic Zone Authority; prospects on energy cooperation; Islamic tourism and related matters; prospects on agriculture and fisheries; and initiatives in support of halal export promotion and joint-venture investment projects in Mindanao and in the BIMP-EAGA region.
