29 August 2017 JAKARTA, INDONESIA — Philippine Ambassador to Jakarta Maria Lumen B. Isleta attended and delivered the Closing Remarks at the ASEAN Golden Jubilee Symposium hosted by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs held on July 13 and 14.

Ambassador Isleta highlighted the six thematic priorities identified by the Philippines during its chairmanship: people-oriented and people-centered ASEAN; peace and stability in the region, maritime security and cooperation; inclusive and innovation-led growth; resilient ASEAN; and ASEAN: a model of regionalism, a global player. She said the thematic priorities are integral to enable positive change in the regional body which is celebrating its 50th founding anniversary.

Earlier, on 13 July, Indonesian Foreign Affairs Vice Minister A.M. Fachir highlighted the success of ASEAN as an engine of peace and prosperity for countries in the region. He said the regional body managed to hurdle challenges through the ASEAN Way which emphasizes on dialogue and consensus.

Indonesia, along with Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines, is a founding member of ASEAN. The ASEAN Golden Jubilee Symposium is part of the ongoing activities in Indonesia to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the regional body.
