29 August 2017 JAKARTA — The Philippine Embassy in Jakarta, in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), hosted a painting exhibit for Filipino artist Manuel D. Baldemor, entitled “Symphony of Colors” which ran from August 15 to 25.

The exhibit included more than 60 of Mr. Baldemor’s artworks on various themes and scenes on the Philippines and Indonesia. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Maria Lumen B. Isleta, Special Advisor to the Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture Ananto Kusuma Seta, Ambassador of the Republic of Zimbabwe to Indonesia and Dean of Diplomatic Corps Alice Mageza, Philippine Permanent Representative to ASEAN Elizabeth P. Buensuceso, and Mr. Baldemor at the Embassy’s chancery.

More than 100 guests attended the opening of the exhibit, including senior officials from the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture, foreign ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, and the Filipino community.

Baldemor also donated a painting to the embassy, “Kay Ganda ng Filipinas” which portrays familiar cultural and geographic scenes and motifs from the Philippines in colors, shapes and lines for which he is well known for. Mr. Baldemor hopes that the painting will remind Filipinos in Indonesia about their cultural heritage and give them a deeper sense of “home” each time they visit the Embassy.

Born in 1947 in Paete, Laguna, Mr. Baldemor trained at the workshops of the town's wood-carvers and santeros or makers of religious images. He is known for his paintings portraying sceneries in simple geometric shapes with a folk art touch. His paintings have been featured in UNICEF greeting cards.
