PHL Embassy Facilitates Repatriation of Five Seafarers Stranded in Syria

30 August 2017 BEIRUT – Five Filipino seafarers who had been stranded for several months aboard an arrested vessel in the Port of Latakia, Syria were finally repatriated through the efforts of the Philippine Embassies in Beirut, Lebanon and Damascus, Syria.

The Philippine Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon facilitated the issuance of transit visas by the Directorate General of the General Security (Lebanese Immigration) to the seafarers to allow them to cross the border.

On August 24, a team composed of Chargé d’affaires Enrik Fort Revillas, Labor Attaché Violeta Illescas and ATN Officer Junaid Ali met the Filipinos at the Arida Border Crossing in North Lebanon and escorted them all the way to the Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut for their flight back home.
