Philippines, Switzerland Celebrates 60th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations in Canton Basel

08 September 2017 BASEL – The Filipino Community in Basel organized a festival to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Philippines- Switzerland Diplomatic Relations. The festival is part of the year-long and Switzerland-wide celebration of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Ambassador Joselito A. Jimeno graced the event and gave his message to both Filipino and Swiss guests. The President of the District Council of Basel Landschaft, Elisabeth Augstburger and the President of the Council of Canton Basel-Stadt, Joël Thüring were also present and delivered their messages for the celebration.

The day-long event featured Filipino and Swiss talents, showcasing both traditional regional dances and music from the three main islands of the Philippines, as well as popular music from both Philippines and Switzerland.

Stall carrying various Philippine cuisines and delicacies that lined St. Johannes Park provided guests and food lovers alike with the various flavors and textures of Philippines traditional dishes.

The family- and- guest- friendly Philippine festival, which aimed to celebrate the sixty years of friendship and cooperation between the Philippines and Switzerland, was the first of its kind ever held in Basel. Around 2,000 guests from Cantons Basel Landschaft and Basel-Stadt and neighboring cantons attend the whole day event.
