PHL Ambassador Attends Ceremonies for Brunei’s IMT Contingents in Mindanao

19 September 2017 BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – PHL Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Meynardo LB. Montealegre, attended the send-off ceremony for the 14th batch of Brunei’s contingent to the International Monitoring Team (IMT) in Mindanao on September 11, and the welcoming ceremony for the 13th batch of Brunei’s IMT contingent on September 15, respectively held at the Bolkiah Garrison Gymnasium in Bandar Seri Begawan.

The send-off ceremony for Brunei’s 14th IMT contingent (IMT-14) was graced by Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah (Pehin Tawih), Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), who presented the Bruneian flag to Lieutenant Colonel (U) Radhuan bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Head of the Brunei IMT-14 contingent.

The IMT-14 consists of eight RBAF personnel and one Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) officer.

Pehin Tawih also spearheaded the welcoming ceremony for the 13th batch of Brunei’s contingent to the IMT in Mindanao (IMT-13), comprised of eight RBAF personnel and one RBPF officer, led by Lieutenant Colonel Abidin bin Haji Timbang on September 15.

Both events were also attended by ACP Haji Mohammad Hassan bin Pehin Penyurat Haji Awang Ahmad, Acting Commissioner of the RBPF; Captain (Ret.) Dato Paduka Abd Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, RBN, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence (MinDef); H.E. Datuk Ghulam Jelani, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam; senior officers and staff of the MinDef and RBAF; a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFAT), and family members of the IMT contingents.

Brunei Darussalam deployed its first IMT team in October 2004. To date, the RBAF has sent more than 150 of its personnel to Mindanao for peace-monitoring missions and humanitarian relief operations. END
