20 September 2017 TEHRAN - Chabahar Free Trade-Industrial Zone (CFZ) Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Abdolrahim Kordi met with Philippine Ambassador to Tehran Wilfredo C. Santos at the Chabahar Free Trade Zone office in Tehran on September 18 to brief and introduce CFZ as fully operational for business and investment to Filipino businessmen.

CFZ is located in the southeastern part of Iran and it is the only Iranian port with direct access to the ocean, making it ideal for ocean-liners to dock and being geographically significant as the entry point of various trade products to the Asian and CIS countries.

During the meeting, Dr. Kordi enumerated the possible areas of trade and investment opportunities which may be tapped by the Philippines, such as the establishment of petrochemical plant, steel and cement mill, automotive industry, food processing company, electronic company, etc.

On the other hand, Ambassador Santos stated that as Iran is opening up to the international market, the Philippines is keen in taking advantage of this opportunity and the CFZ can be one of those medium that can play a vital role in enhancing the bilateral relations between the Philippines and Iran especially in the business, trade, economic, investment and agricultural sectors since products coming from the Philippines may now be transported to other Asian countries as well as to the CIS countries through the Chabahar port.

“Both the Philippines and Iran can complement each other and maximize the opportunities in the areas of trade, business, and investment,” Ambassador Santos said.

The meeting ended with both officials expressing their confidence for an increase in the level of exchanges in trade and investment opportunities beneficial to both countries. END
