DOLE Secretary Attends Meeting of Ambassadors of ADD Member-States in Abu Dhabi

20 September 2017 ABU DHABI - Secretary Silvestre Bello III of the Department of Labor and Employment attended the meeting of the Ambassadors of Abu Dhabi Dialogue (ADD) Member States who are based in the UAE capital on September 13. He was joined by the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi headed by Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Constancio R. Vingno, Jr. and POLO-OWWA officials, as well as officials from the Department of Labor Employment.

The meeting was jointly hosted by Minister Saqr Ghobash of the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) and the current Chairperson of ADD, Minister Thalatha Athukorala of the Sri Lanka Ministry of Foreign Employment. The Secretary also joined the two Ministers and delivered a message on behalf of the Philippine government.     

The meeting was called to inform ADD member states of recent developments regarding ADD’s engagement in the UN-led inter-governmental consultations on migration governance, towards the drafting of a Global Compact of Migration (GCM) and its submission to the UN General Assembly in the fall of 2018.

Minister Ghobash also announced the signing of the PH-UAE MOU on Labor Cooperation, as well as briefed the attendees on the UAE Law on Domestic Workers and the prospects of cooperation between MOHRE and ADD governments on the field of Domestic Labour. END
