22 September 2017 CHICAGO - The Consulate General of the Philippines in Chicago attended the opening reception of an exhibit entitled “Filipino History Unveiled Through the Arts,” on September 16 at the Trickster Gallery in Schaumburg, Illinois.
The exhibit featured work from over 15 Filipino artists as part of the kick-off celebration of the Filipino American History Month (FAHM).
The highlight of the event is the unveiling of the 28-foot long mural painting using some of the 10,000 artifacts from the Philippine collected by the Field Museum as inspiration. The mural was made possible through the kind support of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
The artists who joined with their individual exhibits are: Paul Cainto Balan, Tita Recometa-Brady, Susan Alforque-Silvano, Fred De Asis, Monica Acosta, Lea May Rivera and Jerico Domingo.
Artist Paul Cainto Balan played the musical rendition of “Magpakailanman” and “Sa Ugoy ng Duyan” using his violin followed by cultural performances of traditional folk dances. The exhibit was officially opened with a meet and greet honoring the Filipino artists after the reception.
The exhibit will be open to the public until 30 October 2017.
