Three Filipino Scholars Graduate from the University of Antwerp with Master’s Degree

25 September 2017, BRUSSELS - Three Filipinos have successfully completed master’s studies on development as scholars in the University of Antwerp (UAntwerp), with one of them, Ma. Karen R. Serrano, placing third in the batch ranking.

In a graduation ceremony on September 19, Ms. Serrano also won prizes for development cooperation from the Province of Antwerp for her thesis “Rethinking Return from the ‘Left Ahead’: The case of migrant Filipino Workers in Transnational Spaces in Rome, Italy.” Ms. Serrano, a former labor communications officer at the Department of Labor and Employment, obtained from UAntwerp’s Institute of Development Policy and Management (IOB) a degree on Master of Science in Globalization and Development. She took up International Studies at the University of the Philippines in Diliman.

Along with Ms. Serrano, Ms. Jazzie Di dela Cruz and Ms. Marian Kaye Gamboa also finished degrees on Master of Science in Globalization and Development and Master of Science in Development Evaluation and Management, respectively.

IOB welcomes students from about 25 different countries, many of them receiving scholarships from the Belgian government. For academic year 2017-2018, six scholars are from the Philippines.
