Consulate Hosts Opening of Heber Bartolome Art Exhibition

25 September 2017 CALGARY – Consul General Julius Torres led the opening of a solo art exhibit by Banyuhay singer Heber Bartolome at the Consulate on September 19.
Members of the Filipino community, Consulate personnel, and friends of the Consulate attended the art exhibit launching, which featured Mr. Bartolome’s performance of “Almusal,” one of his popular songs, and reading of poems written by National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera, poet and writer Jose F. Lacaba, and National Artist for Literature and currently Chairman of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts Virgilio Almario, in honor or Mr. Bartolome’s painting titled “Sampayan.”
In his remarks, Consul General Torres said that the launching of the art exhibit not only celebrates Filipino expertise in the arts, in particular Heber Bartolome’s paintings, but also signals the start of a more active cultural promotion by the Consulate in Calgary.
The exhibit, which features an extensive collection of Mr. Bartolome’s paintings, is currently on display at the Consulate.
Mr. Bartolome is a multi-awarded singer/composer and has performed in various countries. His works as a visual artist have also been featured in various art exhibits and competitions in Australia, Germany, Brussels, Austria, Spain, and China. END
