Ballet Philippines Performs Before SRO Crowd in Phnom Penh

Members of the Ballet Philippines (BP) performance before a standing-room-only crowd at the Chaktumok Theater in Phnom Penh.

 

27 September 2017 PHNOM PENH - A standing-room-only (SRO) crowd was treated to a captivating gala performance by the Ballet Philippines (BP) company at the Chaktumok Theater in Phnom Penh on August 26, in one of the highlight activities organized by the Philippine Embassy in Cambodia for the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of Philippines-Cambodia diplomatic relations.    

Entitled "Master Pieces: Celebrating the Tapestry of Filipino Culture and Friendship," the BP performance drew applause and acclaim from members the Cambodian royal family, the diplomatic corps, the Filipino community and expatriates who attended the event. The audience included Dr. Phoeung Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts of Cambodia, Chairman Virgilio Almario of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and BP's founder and artistic director, National Artist for Dance Alice Reyes.

The event, which was co-organized by the Philippine Embassy with the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of Cambodia, included a Friendship Drum Dance performed by the Cambodia Arts Troupe, and a joint community dance with Ballet Philippines.

The visit of BP in Cambodia was supported by NCCA and undertaken within the ambit of the 2016-2019 Executive Program of the Philippines-Cambodia Cultural Agreement. Aside from the gala performance, members of the BP also conducted two (2) dance workshops for the Filipino community, as well as a master class for Cambodian dancers. END
