Fund Raising Event of ASEAN Women Circle of Los Angeles for Hurricanes Harvey and Irma 2017 “The Taste and Arts of ASEAN”

03 October 2017 LOS ANGELES – The ASEAN Women Circle of Los Angeles (AWCLA) held a cultural event dubbed “The Taste & Arts of ASEAN” featuring ASEAN cuisine and the art of table settings on September 16 at the official residence of the Consul General of Malaysia in Arcadia, California.
The event was organized not only as part of the continuing program of AWCLA, under its current President, Mme. Zalina Md Daud, wife of Malaysian Consul General Raja Saifful Ridzuwan, but also as a fundraiser to help the victims of recent Hurricanes Harvey and Irma which hit Houston, Texas and Florida respectively.
Various dishes, delicacies and food were showcased through a mini food bazaar and cooking demonstration. Native of crafts, artifacts, and promotional materials and products of each of the ASEAN member countries were put on display at their respective table settings.
Goldilocks products were proudly featured during the food bazaar while Tortang Puso Ng Saging and Bola-bolang Puso Ng Saging (Banana Heart Omelets and Banana Blossom Balls) were presented by Ms. Elena “Yey” Coronel, Executive Director of Filipino Service Group Inc. (FASGI), during the Filipino cooking demonstration.
Among the dignitaries who attended the event were Consul General Ridzuwan, who officiated the program, Myanmar Consul General Aung Soe Win, Vice Consul Gina Fadilla, representing Patron from Indonesia, Honorary Consul Kim Chha Hout of Cambodia and Ms. Ingrid Lazcano, Consular Corps Liaison for Southern California Public Affairs Council. It was also attended by the officers and personnel of ASEAN member countries and ASEAN-American community.
Established in 1991, AWCLA is led by the wives (addressed as Patrons) of the Honorary Consul of Cambodia and Consuls General of Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines and Thailand. It is a socio-cultural association of women from ASEAN member countries in Los Angeles with the purpose of promoting mutual understanding, cooperation and awareness among ASEAN women, its members and the general public.
