11 October 2017 CAIRO - The Philippines supported calls for greater sustainability of education and training programs of the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) during the organization's 6th Assembly of Parties in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt on October 02-04.
The IACA is an international organization offering anti-corruption education, training, and research opportunities worldwide. Established in 2011, the organization is headquartered in Laxenburg, Austria and has 71 Member States, including the Philippines.
The Assembly of Parties of the IACA is the annual policy consultation meeting of parties to the organization. At this 6th Assembly, participants called for commitment of resources to strengthen the IACA’s emerging role as the global center of excellence for anti-corruption education.
On international cooperation, the Assembly noted that many transnational threats, including terrorism and organized crime, are rooted in and enabled by corruption. Engagements in international forums such as the IACA are therefore vital in addressing corruption on a global scale.
Several participating countries shared their national efforts in combating corruption, with many noting the crucial role of education in fostering a culture of transparency at all levels of society. END
