President Duterte Attends Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty the Sultan’s Accession to the Throne

11 October 2017 BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte visited Brunei Darussalam to attend the Royal Banquet on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Accession to the Throne of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on October 05 to 06
President Duterte was among the Heads of States/Governments invited to attend the Royal Banquet of His Majesty’s 50 years of leadership in Brunei Darussalam. Leaders who were also invited to attend the occasion include, among others, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen; Indonesian President Joko Widodo; Lao Vice President Phankham Viphavanh; Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and Royalties and State Officials from Malaysia; Myanmar State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi; Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha; Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong; Vietnamese Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh; His Royal Highness Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, and Her Royal Highness Princess Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, from the United Kingdom; His Highness Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and the Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan of Oman; His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain; His Royal Highness Prince Hashim bin Al Hussein, Chief Chamberlain at the Royal Court of Jordan; and Dr. Rashid bin Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates.
President Duterte congratulated and exchanged pleasantries with His Majesty the Sultan during the Heads of States/Governments and Royalties’ Audience with His Majesty, prior to the Gala Dinner proper.
The day before the Royal Banquet (October 05, 2017), the Royal Audience Ceremony was held at Istana Nurul Iman which was attended by His Majesty the Sultan, Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha, members of the Royal Family, the Earl of Wessex and Countess of Wessex, members of the diplomatic corps in Brunei Darussalam, and other invited guests.
Following the Royal Audience Ceremony, the Royal Procession, the crowning event of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne, was held wherein an estimated 80,000-strong crowd lined the main streets of Bandar Seri Begawan, chanting “Daulat Duli Tuan Patik” (Long live His Majesty) as they greeted His Majesty the Sultan and the Royal Family while being ferried by the Royal Chariot.
The Royal Procession was witnessed by more than 50 members of the Filipino Community (FilCom) and 50-strong uniformed crew of the Philippine Navy vessel, BRP Andres Bonifacio, who were in Brunei Darussalam upon the invitation of the Royal Brunei Navy in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne.
The attendance of President Duterte in the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty the Sultan’s Accession to the Throne exemplified the excellent and fraternal bilateral relations between the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam. END
