PHL Embassy in Ankara Conducts Regular Consular Mission in Istanbul, Turkey

12 October 2017 ISTANBUL - The Philippine Embassy in Ankara, Turkey conducted its regular monthly consular mission at the Lazonni Hotel in Istanbul on October 01.

The PHL Embassy attended to 305 requests for consular assistance comprising of 63 applications for e-passport renewal; 1 travel document for an overstaying national; 2 recapture of passport biometrics; 3 passport validity extensions and release of 86 new passports. For civil registration, Post attended to 4 reports of birth; one 1 request for Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage (LCCM), and 1 certification. On the legalization of documents, Post handled 1 authentication request, 16 acknowledgments for affidavits, special powers of attorney and the like. 74 submitted information for the Embassy's Certificates of Registration while 53 secured their Certificates. 29 OFWs registered for overseas voting.

Embassy officials continued to attend to queries relating to the authentication of employment contracts as most OFWs in Turkey arrive through irregular procedures or through third country deployments, i.e., previously working as household service workers in Hong Kong, Dubai, Kuwait, Singapore or Russia and seeking work in Turkish households.

The Embassy continues to advise workers to have themselves documented and their contracts verified and authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey to ensure that they enter into agreements that are at par with Philippine and Turkish labor standards. END
