ASEAN Ladies Circle Holds ASEAN’s Golden Jubilee Celebration with Lulu Group in Abu Dhabi

Madame Yoko Ramos-Vingno, Chair of the ASEAN Ladies Circle – Abu Dhabi and Spouse of the Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, leads the opening of the ASEAN’s Golden Jubilee celebration on October 20 at the Mushrif Mall, Abu Dhabi. She is joined by Thai Ambassador to the UAE and Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Abu Dhabi Komate Kamalanavin; Mr. Ashraf Ali M.A., Executive Director of Lulu Group International; Heads of ASEAN Missions in Abu Dhabi, Officers of the ASEAN Ladies Circle, and officials of Lulu Group International.

 

26 October 2017 ABU DHABI – In commemoration of the 50th Founding Anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the ASEAN Ladies’ Circle – Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with Lulu Group International, held the ASEAN’s Golden Jubilee celebration on October 20 at the Mushrif Mall, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Madame Yoko Ramos-Vingno, Chair of the ASEAN Ladies’ Circle – Abu Dhabi, Chair of the Philippine Ladies Circle – Abu Dhabi and Spouse of the Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, delivered the Welcome Remarks. “This event is not only aimed at promoting cooperation among ASEAN Member Countries in the UAE. More importantly, we want to show to our Emirati friends, as well as friends from other countries, how rich and diverse the culture of ASEAN countries is, as shown in our food, performances and videos featuring the best tourist destinations in the region.”

Mr. Ashraf Ali M.A., Executive Director of Lulu Group International, in his remarks, extended his heartfelt greetings on this milestone occasion. He said that the Lulu Group has always supported countries and Embassies to promote their products. “Over the years, we have enjoyed excellent support and cooperation from each of your Embassies.  We assure you of our continued support in the future to further strengthen our relationship.”

Thai Ambassador to the UAE and Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Abu Dhabi (ACAD Komate Kamalanavin, in his remarks, said that working with the Lulu Group was the perfect choice to showcase ASEAN culture and products. “Among the seven ASEAN countries represented tonight, we have approximately 750,000 citizens currently living in the UAE and most of us will agree that many products from ASEAN Member States are available in Lulu Hypermarkets across the UAE,” he cited.

The unveiling of the ASEAN’s 50 logo was led by Ambassador Constancio R. Vingno, Jr. and Madame Yoko Ramos-Vingno (Philippines), Ambassador Samuel Tan and Madame Alice Ho Tan (Singapore), Ambassador Komate Kamalanavin and Minister Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission Viphawan Benniman (Thailand), Ambassador Trinh Vinh Quang and Madame Nguyen Huong (Viet Nam), Minister Counsellor Rofita Djamawar and Madame Farida Husin Bagis (Indonesia), Director Shahrin Mokhtar of Tourism Malaysia, Dubai and Mrs. Shamsinar Ahmad Bashir (Malaysia), and Mr. Zaliman Ali and Mrs. Noorlaila Hj Tajudin (Brunei). They were joined by Executive Director Ashraf Ali M.A., Mr. Abubaker T.P., Regional Director for Abu Dhabi of Lulu Group International, and Mr. Aravind Ravi, General Manager of Mushrif Mall.

Other activities that took place were the ribbon-cutting and cake-cutting ceremonies, booth visit and tour of the Lulu Hypermarket where ASEAN food and products are displayed, live cooking and tasting of ASEAN food, and video presentations and cultural performances by ASEAN Embassies in the UAE.

Mr. Abubaker T.P., Regional Director for Abu Dhabi of Lulu Group International, in his Closing Remarks, thanked everyone for coming to the event.  “I strongly believe that Lulu Hypermarket is the right place for hosting such a vibrant, multi-culture event because our tagline says, ‘Lulu – Where the world comes to shop’”.

Madame Vingno expressed her gratitude to Mr. Ashraf Ali and the Lulu Group International, Mushrif Mall, ACAD, ASEAN Ladies’ Circle, Timeless Elegance Event Management, Xceed Events FZ, Philippine Airlines, Crimson Hotel, Royal Brunei Airlines, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thai Airways, ASEAN Embassies in the UAE, local community partners, and all who made this event possible.

The ASEAN was established on August 08, 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam then joined on January 07, 1984, Viet Nam on July 28, 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on July 23, 1997, and Cambodia on April 30, 1999, making up what is today the ten Member States of ASEAN. Cultural performances at the ASEAN’s Golden Jubilee celebration on October 20 at the Mushrif Mall, Abu Dhabi:  Musical video presentation featuring folk songs, Indung Anak and Joget Seri Kenangan, by Brunei Embassy; Angklung (musical instrument made of bamboo tubes attached to a bamboo frame) presentation by Indonesian Embassy; martial arts and traditional dance by Malaysian Embassy; rendition of a Filipino classic song, “Maalaala Mo Kaya” by the Philippine Embassy; Dikir Barat (choral singing) by Singaporean Embassy; “The Dance of the Candle” by Royal Thai Embassy; and video presentation by Vietnamese Embassy.
