PHL Consulate General in Osaka Holds FilCom Meeting with Congresswoman Acosta-Alba
27 October 2017 OSAKA — The Philippine Consulate General in Osaka held a short FilCom Meeting with Congresswoman Maria Lourdes Acosta-Alba at the Consular Section premises to discuss and exchange views on issues commonly affecting OFWs in Japan on October 24.
The Consul General formally opened the meeting by welcoming the Filipino community members in attendance and introducing Congresswoman Acosta-Alba who proceeded with a PowerPoint presentation on the legislative measures filed by the 17th Congress of the House of Representatives. She also delved into the various House Bills she has referred to and co-sponsored in various House Committees, one of which is the creation of a Department of Overseas Filipino Workers (DOFW).
After her presentation, questions and feedback were received from those in attendance with the issue of the requirement for divorced Filipinos to obtain a Judicial Recognition of Divorce (JRD) from the Philippines prior to getting remarried being the most discussed topic, followed by child welfare issues involving Filipino children unable to integrate properly in Japan due to various social and economic factors.
Congresswoman Acosta-Alba promised to bring up the issues raised by the community with her colleagues in Congress and thanked the latter and the Consulate for taking the time to meet with her. END
