PHL Consulate General in Toronto Welcomes 5th Outbound Trade Mission to Canada

24 October 2017 TORONTO — Consul General Rosalita Prospero welcomed the Philippine delegates of the 5th Outbound Trade Mission to Canada during the “Trade and Investment Opportunities in the Philippines” Forum at the Ontario Trade and Investment Centre in Downtown Toronto on October 23. The trade mission was organized by the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (CanCham) in collaboration with Philippine Consulate General in Toronto. The delegates will visit different cities of the Ontario province from October 22 to 28 for networking and business briefings to expand business and trade relations between the Philippines and Canada.
Consul General Prospero, in her welcome remarks, stated there is significant room for growth in trade between the Philippines and Canada, especially the province of Ontario, given the current level of bilateral trade and the growing Filipino diaspora in Canada. Minister Michael Chan of the Ontario Ministry of International Trade emphasized the importance of the Philippines as an important trading partner considering the Philippines’ status as the third largest economy in ASEAN and the growing Filipino community in Ontario.
In her Keynote Address, DTI Undersecretary Nora Terrado, delivered a presentation of the reasons to invest in the Philippines and explained the Philippine Government’s 10-Point Socio-Economic Agenda to boost growth and address poverty. She also highlighted the strong growth performance of the country in the last five years and its excellent geographic location which makes it a strategic gateway to the Asian region.
A signing ceremony of the “Memorandum of Understanding Between Toon City Academy, Philippines and Seneca College, Canada” was also held. The MoU sought to expand collaboration between the two educational institutions in the field of animation and other related areas through professional exchange of staff expertise. END
