PHL National Youth Commission Chair Lauded by UN Envoy on Youth, Officials of Youth Ministries around the World for Presenting Philippine Youth Development Plan

02 November 2017 MOSCOW — In a gathering of some 80 ministers, officials and heads of government agencies concerned with national youth policy, the Philippines was lauded for its forward-looking youth policy embodied by the Philippine Youth Development Plan (PYDP). National Youth Commission Chair and CEO Cariza Seguerra was among the high-level officials invited to the International Youth Ministerial Meeting held in Moscow on October 12, where the chair presented the PYDP and how the national plan incorporates the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to the development and inclusion of youth in nation-building. The NYC Chair’s presentation was received very positively by the audience and the guest of honor, UN Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth Ms. Jayathma Wickramanayake, praised the PYDP as a positive step in acknowledging the youth’s critical role in shaping and influencing the present in order to realize a better world in the future.
The International Youth Ministerial Meeting in Moscow was held in conjunction with the 2017 World Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi, both events being hosted by the Russian government. Some 60 presentations on national youth policy initiatives, largely focusing on education, were given during whole-day meeting. The event was opened by the Head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs of Russia Alexander Bugaev. Chair Seguerra was accompanied by OIC Chief of the Policy, Research, Monitoring & Evaluation Division of NYC, Ms. Jenivie Anne Rimando Ramirez-Salmo and Third Secretary and Vice Consul Catherine Alpay of the Philippine Embassy in Moscow.
