Twinning Agreement Between Baguio City and Vaughan, Ontario Marks 20th Year

Philippine Consul General Rosalita S. Prospero delivers remarks on the 20th anniversary of the twinning of Baguio City and Vaughan.

 

03 November 2017 TORONTO – The Filipino-Canadian Association of Vaughan (FCAV) celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the Twinning Agreement between the City of Vaughan and Baguio City in the Philippines. To mark this milestone, a dinner and dance was held on October 28 at the home of FCAV-the Patricia Kemp Community Center in Vaughan. The special guest of the evening, the Mayor of Baguio City, Hon. Mauricio Domogan, along with some officials of the city government of Baguio, flew all the way from the Philippines to mark this milestone.

In her speech, Consul General Rosalita Prospero noted the importance of the Twinning Agreement in fostering stronger people-to-people ties. She also emphasized the need for building bridges among communities and Twinning Agreements such as that between the cities of Baguio and Vaughan play a significant role in strengthening the friendship between the Philippines and Canada.

As a manifestation of the growing importance of the Filipino community in the Province of Ontario, officials from all levels-city, provincial, and federal government- Member of Parliament for Thorn Hill Hon. Peter Kent, Member of Parliament for King-Vaughan Hon. Deb Schulte, Mayor of Vaughan Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Deputy Mayor Mario F. Ferri, Local and Regional Councillor Gino Rosati, Local and Regional Councillor Sunder Singh-were present during the occasion. END
