PHL Consulate General Attends Opening of 2nd L.A. PHL International Film Festival, Supports PHL Entry to 3rd Asian World Film Festival

03 November 2017 LOS ANGELES – Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz attended the opening of the 2nd Los Angeles Philippine International Film Festival (LAPIFF) held at Cinemark XD Theatre in the City of Carson and screening of the Philippine Entry to the 3rd Asian World Film Festival (AWFF) at Arclight Cinema in Culver City on October 27.
The Los Angeles Philippine International Film Festival is an organization devoted to the advancement, development and showcase of Filipino Filmakers/Artists around the world through film, providing the global community of entertainment professionals and film goers with consistent annual screening events and workshops. The opening night showcased a total of fourteen (14) short films produced by Filipino-Americans the screenings were followed by panel discussion of filmmakers, actors and screenwriters.
The short films were a product of members of FilAm Creative (FAC), an all-volunteer community organization composed of filmmakers, writers, artists, photographers, actors, musicians, models, comedians and lawyers dedicated to the advancement of Filipino-Americans in entertainment and media.
On the other hand, this year’s AWFF has entries from over 50 countries, which were also submitted to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and the Golden Globes for the Best Foreign Language Film category in addition to other special screenings.
Birdshot, the Philippines’ entry to AWFF is a thriller film directed by Mikhail Red, produced by Pamela Red, and was co-produced by PelikulaRED, Tuko Film Productions, and Buchi Boy Productions was selected as the Philippine entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards. END
