16 November 2017 ABU DHABI — An eight-member Philippine delegation, headed by Her Excellency Maria Zeneida Angara Collinson, Philippine Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna, attended the International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Power in the 21st Century and related meetings held at St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from 30 October to 01 November.
The Conference provided an opportunity for the participants to engage in high-level dialogue on the role of nuclear power in meeting future demands, contributing to sustainable development and mitigating climate change. The Conference addressed a range of topics discussed within its four panel sessions, namely, nuclear power as a key to solving the energy-economy-environment (3E) trilemma, challenges in developing nuclear power infrastructure, safety and reliability aspects of nuclear energy, and innovations and advances in nuclear technologies.
Between the conference Panel Sessions, member states were invited to deliver their National Statements. Ambassador Collinson delivered the Philippines’ National Statement in the afternoon of Day 1 of the conference.
The conference, organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in cooperation with the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (NEA-OECD) and hosted by the Government of the United Arab Emirates through the Ministry of Energy and Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), was attended by 64 participating countries with more than 700 delegates from various organizations.
