PHL Embassy Conducts First Consular Mission in Antalya, Turkey; Facilitates Meeting of Senator Richard Gordon with the Filipino Community

21 November 2017 ANTALYA — The Philippine Embassy in Ankara, Turkey conducted its first Consular Mission in Antalya, Turkey on November 09 and subsequently arranged a meeting between Senator Richard Gordon and the Filipino community in Antalya.
The Embassy processed 16 e-passport applications, extended the validity of 3 passports and released 2 e-passports; acknowledged requests for notarization; processed 4 Reports of Birth and 2 Reports of Marriage; and at least 3 requests under Assistance to Nationals, specifically, on labor issues such as advice on working conditions, disagreements with agents and employers and workers running away from Middle East employers while they went on vacation in Turkey. The team noted that majority of the workers were recruited from Hong Kong, Singapore, Russia or the Middle East.
For overseas voting, Post received 23 applications for OV registration, 2 reactivation of OV records, and 3 requests for transfer of voting records. Post received 26 applications for Certificates of Registration of Filipinos in Turkey and released 2 certificates of registration. Post's officials also provided advice on investment matters in the Philippines relating to retirement, medical tourism, medical training programs and call center operations.
In the meeting with the Filipino community in Antalya, Senator Richard J. Gordon talked about his work on improving the law on the Government's Social Security System, efforts to establish an OFW Bank and pushing for compulsory savings. He underscored key work principles such as Working Hard, Saving, Investing, and Enhancing or Adding Value to one's skills, e.g., learning a foreign language or home accounting. It was important for OFWs to "Make their presence felt", creating a niche by "Defining themselves" and striving to be the best in whatever occupation they were in. END
