PHL Embassy Participates at the Golden Jubilee Run

22 November 2017 BRUNEI – The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, led by Charge d’ Affaires a.i. Melvin C. Almonguera, joined the “Golden Jubilee Run” event organized as part of the celebration for the 50th Anniversary of His Majesty The Sultan’s Accession to the Throne.
The event was graced by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awang Halbi Hj Mohammad Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, and Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs. An estimated 8,000 runners, including members of the diplomatic corps, participated in the event.
The event started with an early morning warm-up session for all the participants gathered at the Taman Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Square, which was the starting point of the run. Representatives from the Philippine Embassy joined the 4km Fun Run. Other categories of the run were the 10Km men run and the 10Km women run.
Apart from celebrating the Golden Jubilee of His Majesty the Sultan’s accession to the throne, the event was held on a Car-Free Sunday being promoted jointly by the Ministries of Health and the Home Affairs. The program encourages Bruneians to engage in physical activities to foster a healthy lifestyle.
On a Car-Free Sunday, a number of roads in Bandar Seri Begawan are closed from 6:00am to 10:00am so the public can use them for recreation, cultural and community activities. END
