PHL Consulate General in Dubai Hosts Red Carpet Premiere of Lamentasyon, the First Film by Overseas Filipinos

22 November 2017 DUBAI – The Philippine Consulate General hosted the red carpet screening of Lamentasyon, the first Filipino feature film written, starred, produced, directed, and marketed by Overseas Filipinos on November 15.

Some 350 guests packed the Grand Hyatt Vox, led by Philippine Consul General in Dubai Paul Raymund Cortes, Filipino Ladies of Dubai Chair Dr. Yasmin Cortes, Director Archie Enriquez, and the film’s cast and crew.

In his address, Consul General Cortes emphasized the Consulate’s strong support for endeavors of the Filipino Community in Dubai and the Northern Emirates to undertake a more vigorous campaign of various facets of Philippine culture such as music, song writing, dance, visual arts (painting, photography, and sculpture), and film making. He commended the producers and the creative team for spearheading the first ever venture of the Overseas Filipino community in film and hoped that this would inspire others to continue nurturing their talents and skills as they become more positive contributors not only to their mother country but also to the countries that they have adopted as their second homes.

The premiere drew the participation of Dubai’s top Filipino professionals and business and artistic circles. Both the producers of the film and the Consulate hope that the event raises interest in the film among the Filipino population in the UAE in time for its public screening tentatively scheduled in December 2017. The producers are also working on a screening schedule in other Middle East countries and if possible, internationally as well. END
