PHL Consulate General in Dubai Hosts Town Hall Meeting with Kabayan Representative Ron Salo

22 November 2017 DUBAI – Philippine Consul General in Dubai Paul Raymund Cortes organized the Consulate’s November Town Hall Meeting Edition with Congressman Ron Salo, Kabayan Party List Representative, at the Rizal Hall of the Philippine Consulate General on November 02. Some 100 Filipino community leaders and members attended this forum.

Congressman Salo focused his discussions on reform in our educational paradigm, emphasizing the need to recalibrate our educational system to critical thinking, craftsmanship, and character in lieu of Reading, wRiting, and aRithmetic. He emphasized the need to “change the primary aim of employability to equipping our students with the requisite knowledge, relevant skills, and proper values to be successful individuals and outstanding citizens of this country.”

The Consulate General in Dubai holds a Monthly Town Hall Meeting as an avenue where the Filipino community in Dubai and the Northern Emirates could voice out their opinions, raise inquiries on policy, and be updated of current political, economic, and socio-cultural developments in the country. The November 2017 edition drew the participation of Filipino teachers and administrators of Philippine schools overseas based in Dubai and Sharjah.

Past guests of the Consulate’s Town Hall Meeting include Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alan Peter Cayetano, former SFA Perfecto Yasay, PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar, OUMWA Usec. Sarah Lou Y. Arriola, and Secretary Jess Dureza of the Peace Process. END
