PHL Embassy in Vientiane and CARD MRI Exhibit PHL Products in Cultural Events

23 November 2017 VIENTIANE — The Philippine Embassy in Vientiane, Lao PDR and the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (CARD MRI), sold Philippine handicrafts, accessories, and cuisine during the WIG (Women’s International Group) Bazaar on November 11 and in the Annual Tea Party on November 18.
During the two events, the Embassy displayed nito and durian fruit fiber lamps, native accessories, and Filipino foods, including biko, bopis, menudo, and kaldereta, among others.
Meanwhile, CARD MRI promoted scarves, lunchboxes, bags, clutches, fans, and barong fabric, which were made by its women entrepreneurs under the “Mga Likha ni Inay” brand. CARD MRI is a company specializing in microfinance for women who want to establish their own businesses. They also provide access to social services to communities.
The WIG Bazaar was held at the National University of Laos’ (NUOL) Faculty of Engineering in Vientiane. The WIG is a voluntary organization in Laos that conducts health and education initiatives across the country, particularly in the provinces of Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Xieng Khouang. It also conducts cultural studies to promote Lao culture and discuss relevant issues in the country.
The Annual Tea Party was held at the International Cooperation and Training Center (ICTC) in Vientiane and is hosted by the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Lao Women’s Union (MOFA-LWU). The purpose of the event is to encourage solidarity among the female diplomats in Laos through culture.
The WIG Bazaar and the Annual Tea Party invited diplomatic missions, schools, hotels and restaurants, and other establishments to sell their products and promote their services. The two events also include cultural performances provided by the diplomatic missions and schools. END
