24 November 2017 PARIS – Philippine cacao made history after receiving a “Certificate of Recognition” at the 2017 edition of the International Cocoa Awards in a ceremony held at the Salon du Chocolat in Paris Porte de Versailles last October 30.

The award was received by Mr. Rex Victor Puentespina of Malagos Agri-Ventures Corporation, together with the head of Philippine cacao delegation, Mr. Valente Turtur, President of the Philippine Cacao Industry Development Council.

Representatives from other Filipino chocolate makers and chocolatiers such as Auro Chocolates, Ginto Chocolates, Kablon Farms Food Products, Nutrarich Netraceuticals Innovations and Theo & Philo Chocolates were also present in the ceremony to lend their support.

The Philippine beans, which came from the Puentespina Farm in Malagos, Davao bested over a hundred other samples received from forty participating producer countries all over the world.

This is the first time that the Philippines, through the Philippine Cacao Industry Development Council, joined the prestigious competition organized by Bioversity International to celebrate the work of cacao producers and the richness and variety of cacao expression every two years.

With the support of the Department of Trade and Industry, the Philippines was able to feature its chocolate products in a country booth at the Salon du Chocolat, the largest chocolate event in the world, which ran from October 28 to November 1 at the Paris Porte de Versailles. END
