PHL Consulate General in Calgary Holds Outreach Mission in Leduc

Consul General Julius D. Torres welcomes attendees to the thanksgiving dinner held in recognition of the valuable contributions of volunteers from the different Filipino community organizations in the areas where the Consulate held outreach missions in the past year. At the start of the program, Consul General Torres and the attendees held a minute of silence to remember the late Filipino-Canadian Senator Tobias C. Enverga, Jr., who passed away on November 16.

28 November 2017 LEDUC — Consul General Julius D. Torres of the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary led a Consulate team on an outreach mission to Leduc, Alberta from November 18 to 19, providing passport and consular services to more than 200 Filipinos in the town and surrounding areas.

Held at the Wingate Hotel Edmonton Airport, the outreach mission, organized in cooperation with the Duterte Volunteers of Alberta headed by Mr. Benjamin Lindo, processed 138 passport renewals, 45 notarial services, one civil registration, and 18 applications for dual citizenship. Of the 18 applicants for dual citizenship, 17 were able to join three others who had submitted their Dual Citizenship applications prior to the outreach in taking the Oath of Allegiance.

Leduc is an industrial city around 33 km. south of Edmonton and is part of the Edmonton Capital Region metropolitan area. The city is home to the Edmonton International Airport, and Filipinos there mostly work in sectors connected to the airport’s operations.

Consul General Torres also hosted a thanksgiving dinner for volunteers to recognize the valuable contributions of the members of the different Filipino communities. In his remarks, the Consul General thanked the volunteers and community leaders for helping the Consulate provide consular services to Filipinos living in the different areas of its jurisdiction.

He also announced that passports to be issued beginning January 2018 will have a 10-year validity, which was warmly welcomed by the attendees. END
