Toronto City Council Declares June Every Year as Filipino Heritage Month in Toronto

04 December 2017 TORONTO – The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto attended a forum at the Scarborough Civic Centre to celebrate the passing of the motion presented to the City Council to celebrate Filipino Heritage Month in the City of Toronto every June of the year beginning 2018.
Councilor Neethan Shan of Ward 42, Scarborough Rouge River, who tabled the motion before the City Council, expressed appreciation for the success of the initiative and the contribution of the Filipino community to the overall development of the Greater Toronto Area.
In her speech, Consul General Rosalita S. Prospero congratulated all those who worked hard for the passing of the motion to celebrate Filipino Heritage Month in Toronto every June of the year. She emphasized the richness of the cultural heritage of Filipinos which adds to the diversity of Toronto’s cultural milieu. She mentioned that there are 834,000 Filipinos in Canada and 300,000 in Ontario. She expressed the hope that the declaration of Filipino Heritage Month would lead to closer people to people ties, fostering peace and harmony. END
